Stock tanks, livestock waterers and agricultural supply lines are health hazard connections and are treated that way. A float valve sitting in a tank that animals drink from is a direct path, and the tank is not clean.
Agricultural connections also tend to involve chemical injection at some point — medicators, supplements, or a sprayer filled from the same line. Once any of that is on the system the classification is settled.
On the Western Slope there is a second wrinkle. A lot of ag property has both a domestic line and a ditch or raw water supply, and the point where those two can meet is exactly what cross-connection control exists to prevent. If a property has both, the separation between them matters more than any single device.
These connections sit outside the foundation, so we handle them end to end — test, repair, replace and install. It is also the work we know best, because it is the same water and the same ditch systems our irrigation crews are in all season.
Which assembly your provider will accept depends on their cross-connection control program and the code in force where you are. The seven device types we see on the Western Slope.
