Town of Austin

Austin sits at the east end of Orchard City, down on the valley floor where the ground flattens out toward Delta. Our shop is on Austin Road — this is where the trucks are parked and where the crews leave from every morning.

Same town, different water

Austin is part of the Town of Orchard City, along with Cory and Eckert. But the water does not follow the town line. Up the valley, everything south of Eckert irrigates off the Orchard City Irrigation District, and that water comes off the Grand Mesa. Down here on the floor, the ground is Gunnison-fed.

That difference is not academic. It changes the sediment in the line, the pressure at the head, the dates the water is available, and what has to be installed to deal with all three. A system that was built right for a property in Eckert is not automatically right for one in Austin, and the two are eleven minutes apart.

Valley floor conditions

The longest season in this part of the county. Lowest ground we work, which means the earliest first mow and the latest hard freeze. Winterization routes come down here last for exactly that reason.

Hotter and drier in July. The valley floor takes more heat than the benches do, and lawns here show the difference by August if the irrigation is not right.

It is our own neighborhood. We are not driving out here. We are already here, which shows up mostly in response time on the days it matters.
